United Nations: North should be subjected to ECOSOC review
Geneva, 4 July - Developed countries should also make presentations on the implementation of their international development commitments under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)'s recently launched review mechanism, the Annual Ministerial Review (AMR), in addition to the presentations made by developing countries, the G77 and China has urged.

Social Watch India launches report on Governance
The Social Watch India Report 2007 will be released on 30th June 2007 at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi . The report focuses on the performance of institutions of governance namely the Parliament, the Executive, the Judiciary and the institutions of local self governance from a human rights perspective. The Social Watch India Report 2007 emphasizes the importance of ensuring these Rights to vulnerable sections such as the tribals, the dalits, the poor and the women.

United Nations: No progress in reducing global hunger
Geneva, 14 June (Kanaga Raja) -- The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Jean Ziegler, has expressed outrage that global hunger is still on the rise despite commitments made by governments to reduce hunger in 1996 at the first World Food Summit and again at the Millennium Summit in 2000.

Social Watch Reacts to G8 Summit Declaration
(June 8).The Group of 8 most powerful countries in the world meeting in Germany approved Friday a final declaration that once again shows their lack of political will to implement development aid that would enable poor countries, especially from Africa, to offer their populations a minimum level of welfare.

Social Watch launched Basic Capabilities Index in Rostock, Germany
(June 7) The Basic Capabilities Index (BCI) produced annually by Social Watch was launched on June 6th to coincide with the Summit of the world’s Group of 8 most powerful countries, held on June 6-8 at the tourist resort of Heiligendamm, Germany.
