The 2008 Social Watch report, titled “The Answer is Rights” looks at the relation between Human Rights and the economic rules (and deregulation) brought by globalization. Social Watch has been an active participant in the 2002 Monterrey conference on Financing for Development and its 2008 follow-up conference in Doha.

Social Watch Philippines to Bicam members: Do not sign 2009 budget without details
Do not sign the 2009 national budget until the details of the P1.415-trillion budget are disclosed to the public and to the members of the Bicam themselves. This is the call of Social Watch Philippines (SWP) to members of the Bicameral Conference Committee upon announcement by the Senate President that the Bicam is ready to pass the budget while even members of the Bicam are complaining that they do not know its details.

Africa faces 'centuries' of poverty
Extreme poverty would continue to hit sub-Saharan Africa out of 80 countries for another 200 years, latest research revealed January. Unless poverty intervention actions are intensified the situation would be worse, the report conducted by Social Watch, a network of campaigning groups added.

Social Watch: Report Indicates that Poverty in Africa May Grow
According to Social Watchs' Annual Report 2008, 80 countries fare badly when examining 3 criteria, measured in the "basic capabilities index": child mortality, number of children completing primary education, and proportion of births attended by skilled personel. Especially in sub-Saharan African countries with recorded strong economic growth in recent years, the economic growth has not been translated into a major drop in poverty levels.

Social Watch launches its 2008 report: 'Rights is the answer'
On Wednesday 7 January in the European Parliament in Brussels, the international NGO network Social Watch launched its new report entitled "Rights is the answer", which argues that human rights provide the answer to the global financial crisis.
