Deepikaglobal
New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) The government today reiterated that it would deliver the promises made in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) to make a difference to the lives of the people.
Addressing a
national convention on 'Wada Na Todo Abhiyan' (Keep Your Promises) here,
Minister of State for Planning M V Rajsekharan said the government had given the
"highest priority" to implementing the CMP.
''This
government is committed to implementing the CMP,'' Mr Rajsekharan said while
listing out education and health as the two ''most important'' areas.
The gathering
of representatives from different non-governmental organisations from across the
country were told that it would now be their turn to ''keep a watch on the
bureaucrats'' for implementation of CMP.
'Wada Na Todo
Abhiyan' was launched by the Social Watch Coalition, a conglomeration of NGOs
from around the country in mid-August after the new government was formed, to
ensure implementation of CMP, especially its promises on improving primary
education and healthcare and providing jobs for 100 days under the Employment
Guarantee Scheme.
''The objective
of our campaign is to ensure implementation of CMP and the national development
goals,'' said Amitabh Behar, director of National Centre for Advocacy Studies,
Pune.
Other NGOs in
the campaign include Samardhan, Bhopal, Dalit organisations like National
Campaign for Dalit Human Rights and Ekta Parishad and international NGOs Oxfam
and Action Aid.
