Launch of Social Watch Report 2007 in Benin
Next Thursday, January the 31st, Social Watch Bénin will be launching de Social Watch Report 2007 together with the Alternative CSO’s Report on the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). The launching will take place at the Palace of Congress, in Cotonou.

Democracy frustrating
Social activists and voluntary organisations had not much praise for the government in a “Citizens’ Report on Governance & Development 2007”, released by Professor Sunanda Sanyal today. The report was prepared by the National Social Watch Process.

Launch of Social Watch Report 2007 in the Philippines
Social Watch Philippines released its global report last November, to coincide with the conclusion of the National Consultation on Financing for Development that was attended by civil society groups and discussed the status of the country’s programs to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

On December 12 Tanzania Social Watch Coalition held a Press conference to launching of the 2007 Social Watch Report. The Conference was attended by different stakeholders who discussed the report in detail and promised to use the same as an advocacy tool on Social Security Issues. Somali Civil Society to join Social Watch Network
Thirty participants attended a workshop held at the Mogadishu' Sahafi II hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday 20th and 21st of November 2007. SOCDA organised the gathering in order to highlight the importance of civil society networks.

Hedge Funds May Jeopardize Workers' Savings
Individual and government investment of pension programme money in hedge funds could jeopardize workers' retirement savings and future well-being as senior citizens, warns the 2007 Social Watch Report launched in New York in the context of the United Nations High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development. An increasing proportion of citizens' retirement savings is being placed in hedge funds, Rainer Falk reports.
